American Jenny Simpson ran a 3:57.24 1500 in Paris today, that's only .12 behind Mary Slaney's American record at 1500 meters

Jenny Simpson crafted a marvelous effort today at the Diamond League meet in Paris, running the 1500 meters in 3:57.24 to finish 2nd to a National Record and World Leader from Sifan Hassan of the Netherlands who ran a 3:57.

Simson's mark was tantalizingly close to the American Record of 3:57.12 of Mary Decker.

Results of today's race:

1 - HASSAN Sifan NED 3:57.00 WL,NR 5
2 SIMPSON Jennifer USA 3:57.22 PB

3 OBIRI Hellen KEN 3:58.89 5 2
4 KIPYEGON Faith Chepngetich KEN 3:59.21
5 ROWBURY Shannon USA 3:59.49 PB
It was a very fast race today as five women cracked the 4:00 barrier with American Shannon Rowbury clocking a personal best of 3:59.49 in finishing 5th.

I'm guessing Simpson will get a shot at that mark within the next six weeks as the Diamond League series continues.
